We had a couple and their kids over for brunch the other day and I was reminded how nice it is to serve a meal for company that isn’t dinner. It was a welcomed switch up from our normal get togethers! My friend Emily and I were having a mimosa and talking about how different our styles of hosting and cooking has changed since having kids. She and I have always been very compatible in this space so it was reassuring (I think for both of us) that we aren’t alone in taking shortcuts. I reminded her that someday when our littles are bigger we’ll have more time for cooking things from scratch and heck, not relying on grocery delivery for last minute essentials but for now, there’s no shame in the game!
It’s getting so dang convenient when it comes to prepared foods and the freezer section which makes the justification process that much sweeter. Sure, you can make mini muffins from scratch, but are they that much better than ones you can buy? With so many brands focusing their attention to cleaner labels and better for you ingredients, you may pay a little extra for the convenience but sometimes it is worth it! I have always loved the semi-homemade approach to cooking by taking shortcuts where you can and focusing on where it matters for homemade. What’s your go to semi-homemade dish?
